Which brush should I use?

Use a brush that suits your pet's coat type

Twice a year your four-legged friend's coat changes, once in spring and once in autumn. Proper grooming is crucial to keep your pet comfortable and healthy throughout the year. Use the right tool to help your four-legged friend maintain its coat according to its coat type.

1. Short hair

Short-haired dogs and cats generally need less intensive coat care than long-haired ones. But even short-haired four-legged friends have loose hair. Especially during the shedding period, some extra attention can't hurt.

Brushing removes loose hair and stimulates circulation. For short-haired pets, weekly brushing is sufficient. This is best done with a boar bristle brush, such as Noir's ergonomic soft brush. The loose hairs stick to the brush, making it easy to remove them.

Even with a damp glove like the Amber glove from I Love Happy Cats, you can easily remove loose hair without damaging the coat.

2. Medium-length hair

Dogs and cats with longer hair require more regular maintenance to prevent tangles and matting. For this, it is best to use a slicker brush. The pins help to gently comb through tangles.

The ARTHUR slicker brush, is specially created to remove excess hair and tangles from your cat's coat. Thanks to its compact design, you can easily reach hard-to-reach areas, such as under the armpits and behind the ears. For dogs, we recommend a larger model such as Japandi's slicker brush.

3. Long hair

Long-haired pets need extra care to keep their fur healthy and tangle-free. Go over the coat daily looking for tangles. Gently comb them out. It is best to do a full grooming once a week to avoid damaging the coat. You do this in layers from bottom to top. Start by combing the bottom layer and continue until you reach the top layer. Don't forget difficult places like armpits and ears. Find a piece of felt? Then carefully shave it off, never use scissors! The risk of damaging the skin is too great.

For long-haired coat care, use a comb with coarse teeth. I Love Happy Cats' Adam comb is specially designed for long-haired cats.

During coat care, it is best to keep a tasty snack handy. Give a treat or delicious paste now and then to distract your pet. A few grooming sessions later, your four-legged friend will link this activity to something fun and will enjoy the process.
